Preparing a device for Cisco Security Manager

So today I was trying to add an external device to the Cisco Security Manager (CSM). I realized after some trials and tribulations that the following commands are required on the remote device, which in this case was an ASA 5520 running 7.2(2).

  • http server enable (turns on the web interface)
  • http redirect external (only if you want http to auto-redirect to https)
  • http 1.2.3.4 255.255.255.255 external (this allows the ip address or range you are connecting from)

After all this information is entered you should be able to successfully discover your remote device in the Cisco Security Manager console.
